No — sushi grade or not, raw fish carries real bacterial and parasite risks for dogs. The fish must always be fully cooked before serving to your Frenchie.
Is canned tuna safe?
In small amounts, yes — canned tuna in water (not oil) is cooked and safe occasionally. However, it's high in mercury so keep it as a very rare treat.
What fish CAN dogs eat?
Cooked salmon, cod, and tuna (in moderation) are safe. Always cook fish thoroughly — baked or boiled with no seasonings — and remove all bones.
Why is raw salmon so dangerous specifically?
Pacific salmon can carry Neorickettsia helminthoeca, a parasite that causes 'Salmon Poisoning Disease' — uniquely fatal to dogs (not humans). Fully cooking the fish kills the parasite.
