Select yes if your dog is currently following a prescribed diet.
How this calculator works
This tool uses a transparent, deterministic methodology. It has not been veterinary reviewed.
Intended population
Apparently healthy adult French Bulldogs with a BCS of 4โ5/9. It does not calculate weight-loss, weight-gain or therapeutic diet targets.
RER and MER
RER = 70 ร body weight in kg^0.75. For neutered adults, the initial MER range is RER ร 1.4โ1.6. For intact adults, it is RER ร 1.6โ1.8.
Why ranges are used
Energy requirements vary between individual dogs. A range avoids presenting one falsely precise calorie number.
Activity questionnaire
Duration, intensity and structured activity create a FrenchieCarePro UX profile only. This is not a validated veterinary activity scale, and activity does not alter MER in Methodology v1.0.
From calories to grams
The daily energy range is divided by the food's kcal per gram. The selected meal count only divides that daily amount mathematically.
Treats and extras
Treats and extras are included inside the total daily calorie budget. Keep them at or below 10% as a maximum general guideline; do not automatically subtract 10% from the main-food portion.
Monitoring
Monitor weight and BCS over time. Talk with your veterinarian about significant feeding changes or unexpected weight changes.
Limitations
The result is not a prescription, diagnosis, weight-loss plan, therapeutic target or homemade-diet formulation. It does not replace an individualized veterinary assessment.
These authoritative resources informed the educational framing. The calculator does not reproduce a commercial food database or claim veterinary approval.
