    Possible common causes

    When to monitor at home

    • Superficial scratch on non-critical areas (paws, body)
    • Bleeding is minimal and stops with light pressure in 5–10 minutes
    • The wound is clean and does not appear infected

    When to contact the vet

    • The wound is deep, wide, or does not stop bleeding
    • The bite is from another animal (infection risk)
    • The wound is near the eyes, mouth, or genitals
    • Signs of infection appear (swelling, heat, pus, odour)

    When it may be an emergency

    • Abundant bleeding that does not stop
    • Deep wound on chest or abdomen
    • Severe trauma (road accident, fall from height)
