Possible common causes

When to monitor at home
- Scratching has increased during a specific seasonal period (pollen)
- There are no visible lesions on the skin
- The dog sleeps and behaves normally otherwise
When to contact the vet
- Scratching is constant and gives the dog no relief
- Lesions, hair loss, or redness have appeared
- The dog licks its paws until creating moist lesions
- The problem has lasted more than a week
When it may be an emergency
- Sudden swelling of the muzzle or neck associated with scratching
- Generalised hives with breathing difficulty
